City Tour of Postcolonial Göttingen

Traces of colonialism and their effects today are usually not visible at first glance in the cityscape. However, for a critical engagement with history that challenges racism, it is essential to highlight the traces of colonial rule. We would therefore like to invite you to (re)discover Göttingen through a ‘post- and decolonial lens’.

The sites in Göttingen that can be visited as part of this tour represent only fragments of the colonial past: they serve as starting points for a deeper engagement with colonialism, which manifests itself particularly in power relations and structures. The tour is therefore intended, above all, to encourage participants to engage with the colonial imprints on (German) society.

At best, it may even inspire criticism and intervention in the face of colonial continuities.
